Surgical Lasers

biolitec’s™ Ceralas® 980nm diode laser allows controlled tissue ablation and provides a clean, bloodless field for most surgical procedures. Unlike other medical lasers, the Ceralas® 980 nm laser cuts optically—typically without collateral tissue damage or charring. The Ceralas® coagulates blood instantly and seals small blood vessels—minimizing inflammation and the usual discomfort associated with most surgeries.

Advantages of the Ceralas® 980nm Laser
biolitec’s™ Ceralas® 980nm diode laser allows controlled tissue ablation and provides a clean, bloodless field for most surgical procedures. Unlike other medical lasers, the Ceralas® 980 nm laser cuts optically—typically without collateral tissue damage or charring. The Ceralas® coagulates blood instantly and seals small blood vessels—minimizing inflammation and the usual discomfort associated with most surgeries.
As a surgical instrument, the 980nm Ceralas® makes extremely accurate and nearly bloodless incisions. The unique fiber optic delivery system transmits no significant lateral heat and ensures a controlled depth of laser penetration, preserving the surrounding tissue. Also, the Ceralas® laser reduces the need for anesthetic, minimizes post-operative pain and swelling, and enhances recovery time.
Weighing only 15 pounds, the Ceralas® is easily portable making it ideal for multiple lab use. With its durable solid-state construction, the Ceralas® laser is essentially maintenance-free.
Advantages of the 980nm Wavelength
Because soft tissue contains a high percentage of water, a surgical laser must be well absorbed in water to ablate tissue properly.
Also, the absorption of hemoglobin is imperative for char-free and durable coagulation. Considering the absorption rates of water and hemoglobin together, 980nm is the ideal wavelength for both cutting and coagulating.
Another major benefit of the laser’s unique wavelength is its ability to cut and coagulate optically—not thermally. Most other lasers’ optical energy is absorbed in the fiber tip, not in water, hemoglobin, or tissue. Therefore, other lasers thermally cauterize tissue to prevent bleeding while the biolitec™ 980nm laser coagulates optically—without charring tissue. Because laser light cuts the tissue, the Ceralas® maintains a controlled depth of penetration and essentially eliminates collateral tissue damage.
