The HA-HSE PENNOCK data acquisition and monitoring software is dedicated to acquiring respiratory air flow signals from up to four double chamber plethysmograph boxes. Airflows on a free breathing restrained animal are measured.  Any pressure, ECG or other signals like temperature etc, can also be recorded.

Calculated respiration parameters are: respiratory rate, peak  inspiratory flow, peak expiratory flow, tidal volume, specific airway  resistance.  User defined parameters can be created by using formulas.

All acquired signals and all calculated parameters can be displayed in two graphic windows (Detail and Trend) according to the settings of the user. Complete raw data of experiment are stored on hard disk and can be replayed any time later after experiment. Includes graphic selection of trend data points for easy data reduction.

PENNOCK software is available in a basic version which includes the minimal necessary algorithms. Optional software modules are available to upgrade to a more complex system that includes all the available algorithms. The configuration of the system is defined in configuration and can be set by the user in the menu. The user only needs to calibrate the signals and fix the graphics scaling. All the hardware definitions and algorithms can be defined by the user. The configuration files can be changed according to the needs and used in combination with a set of different configuration files to match the different experiments.

PENNOCK software can acquire a maximum of 8 or 16 channels depending on hardware used  73-3330 (16 ch), 73-4817 (8 ch) or 73-4818 (16 ch), i.e. up to 16 different raw signals can be handled.

  •  Choose available signals to acquire and display.
  • Choose from possible parameters to evaluate and display.
  • Enter experimental protocol.
  • Calibrate. (Calibration can be taken from previous experiment).
  • Start data acquisition.
  • Data reduction and evaluation.

During data acqusition, all acquired signals and derived parameaters are displayed on screen. All raw data and trend data are stored. Data reduction tools are included. Export of data to any statistc package are possible.

The Software Receives the Following Signals from up to 4 Plethysmograph Boxes:

  • Airflow from the Nasal Chamber
  • Airflow from the Thoracic Chamber

  • Blood Pressure
  • ECG

From these signals the software calculates the following parameters online:

From the Pulmonary Airflow signals:

  • Respiration Rate (RR)
  • Peak Inspiratory Flow (PIF), Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF)
  • Tidal Volume (TV)

  • IT (Inspiratory Time), ET (Expiratory Time), AT (Apnea Time), TT (Total Time), TB (Time of brake), TP (Time of pause), Airflow at 0.5VT

From the Phase Shift between Nasal and Thoracic Airflow:

  • Phasic Shift in msec (PenSift)
  • Specific Airway Resistance (Res)

 Optionally from Blood Pressures:

  • Systolic, Diastolic, Mean Pressure
  • Heart Rate

 Optionally from the ECG:

  • Heart Rate
  • RR-I

Additional available software modules:

73-3409 Blood Pressure Calculates: heart rate, sys, dia, and mean values from pulsatile signals
73-2706 ECG/Heart Rate
Calculates: RR-Interval and heart rate
Advanced Respiration 2
Calculates: inspiration time, expiration time, apnea time, total time, EF50, time braking, time pause
