Head Block Tether

Our head block tether assemblies were designed for microdialysis, but also work well for standard infusion applications. In fact, we have found that the head block tether is the best option for all applications when working with mice. It provides a solid attachment to the animal with little risk of infection.

Our head block tether assemblies were designed for microdialysis, but also work well for standard infusion applications. In fact, we have found that the head block tether is the best option for all applications when working with mice. It provides a solid attachment to the animal with little risk of infection.
We recommend using our Counter-Balanced Lever Arms, see page B9, to remove slack in the head block tether and to give your animal the greatest possible freedom of movement.
Head Block Tether for Rats
This large lumen tether can accommodate two standard microdialysis probes allowing it to be set up in a number of configurations. A 3/4 inch slotted screw attaches to the animal’s skull with Dental Acrylic as do the 59-7351 Skull Mounting Screws and Probe Guides, see our website. A blade on the end of the stainless steel spring tether slides into the head mount screw and is secured with a knurled tubular nut.
Head Block Tether for Mice
Instead of a spring, the mouse head block tether uses a fine 0.010 inch diameter looped wire making it extremely light weight and allowing it to easily transmit torque to the swivel as the mouse moves.
A small peg attaches to the animal’s skull with dental acrylic. The wire tether is easily attached by inserting it into a hole in the peg and sliding a sleeve over it.
The tether can attach directly to the clamp on our low-torque single channel swivel for normal infusion applications, or to a collection tube holder mounted on the rotating portion of the swivel for microdialysis.
